Notice of Interstate Meetings
Written on April 25, 2009 by Pault
Meetings will be held in both Sydney and Melbourne early next month for the purpose of determining if there is sufficient interest in establishing regional AMMPT branches in these regions. They will be open to anyone interested in preserving the heritage of the Australian cinema and television industries for future generations who are likely to have no connection with, or memory of what it was like in the pioneering days when success was largely dependent on the ingenuity, skill and showmanship of dedicated individuals – a far cry from the computer dominated industry that exists today.
Action to establish a national network of independent individuals, collectors and commercial entities who recognise the value and urgency in preserving our industries’ heritage was taken four years ago when AMMPT was registered nationally with the ATO and ASIC. Since then only one autonomous regional branch has been established. Based in Perth with a local membership of nearly 100 and a lesser number scattered through the other regions, it has been successful in running exhibitions and events with funding from Lotterywest, Screenwest, the NFSA, Atlab, local television stations and cinema chains. With grant funding it has purchased and installed administrative and collection cataloguing databases which will be accessible via the internet to all other branches as they become established.
The initial intention of establishing permanent displays and collections in all regions has been modified to reflect the realities and feedback. Our focus is now for regional autonomous branches to collaborate with established government, community and private museums to support and promote their displays and enhancing them at specific exhibitions with objects, photographs etc from the communal regional collections. The interchange of information on the national database will enable all branches to identify items which may be given or loaned to other branches for their collection or used in their displays.
Details of the Western Region branch’s activities during the past four years and suggestions on how other branches could be formed and operate will be given at the Sydney and Melbourne meetings.

It would be appreciated if you can phone or email me, as listed below by next Wednesday 29th of your intentions. Sorry for the late notice, but hope to see you there.
