ABC TV Veterans Public Gathering
What: Members of the public are invited to attend a nostalgic trip down TV memory lane when veteran ABC television presenters meet their viewers and reminisce about the early days at Aunty.
Where: The gathering will be held in the State Library Theatre in the Perth Cultural Centre.
When: Begins at noon on Monday May 17th and finished before 2 pm.
As their contribution to Museums Week (May 17th to 23rd) The Australian Museum of Motion Picture Technology (Inc.), a group of volunteers from the local cinema and television industries, will be presenting an interactive public gathering to commemorate 50 years of ABC television broadcasting in Western Australia. While the ABC will be having a staff reunion, loyal ABC TV viewers are being given the opportunity to meet and listen to those who informed and entertained them decades ago.
Some never before public repeated anecdotes and revelations about what actually went on behind the scenes are sure to expel some myths of the TV business. It will also reveal the human face of some previously considered staid BBC type presenters who were forced to deliver in such a rigid and controlled manner.
The programme will also contain segments designed to flush away the onset of Alzheimer’s and bring back vivid memories of TV – a time the whole family could watch any programme. A time when the most offensive word used in programmes was “damn” and the presenters were dressed immaculately – even if it was only that part seen by the camera!
ABC veteran David Hawkes will have the role of moderator, ensuring a certain amount of decorum is maintained for the gathering. He is attempting to contact many of his “old” TV presenter colleagues to join him and other ABC veterans on “the panel”. Tea and coffee will be served at the conclusion of the forum, giving everyone an opportunity to continue discussions with old TV friends who were regular visitors to their living rooms.
