Dear AMMPT Members and supporters,

It is with a great deal of personal sadness that I must report on the sudden death of a long time personal cinematographer colleague and a foundation interstate AMMPT member John Bowring A.C.S. John established the respected industry equipment supplier, Melbourne based LEMAC and subsequently opening a branch office in Sydney. I had an email from John in Las Vegas last Tuesday who was at an industry symposium, offering to supply us technical articles he had done for AC to be used in Newsreel. I am absolutely devastated by the news.

John had a close association with GTV in Melbourne and shot the original film segments for the Paul Hogan Show. John was passionate about preserving the heritage of the Australian film & television industry and had established a display of memorabilia in his Richmond office. His contribution to the support and introduction of innovations to the local industry is without peer. Not only will he be sadly missed as an AMMPT member, the entire industry will have lost one of its most ardent supporters.

I am attaching a photo of John, as usual behind the camera, with the local crew, when he was shooting commercials in Perth in the late 70′s or early 80′s. We hope to run a more detailed obituary in the next edition of Newsreel. Our condolences go to his wife Sue, Jack, and the Lemac team for the loss of an industry giant.

Regards,
Daryl Binning A.C.S.
